The Norse Smorgasbord has been held each fall since 1949 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in the Norse Historic District. Since the community was predominately Norwegian the most colorful of Norwegian peasant costumes, the Hardanger, was chosen as the official dress for workers at the feast. The Smorgasbord has become an annual tradition that has been widely recognized both near and far. The wonderful results is that all members (men, young people, and the women) find joy in working together, putting forth a great effort each year to make this colorful event successful.
Proceeds benefit a variety of worthy causes. The Smorgasbord is mainly advertised by word of mouth, and even with that, it is sold out every year. The food is prepared by recipes passed down from generation to generation, and each new generation learns the details. There are recipe books for sale as you enter the parish hall. There are also homemade items for sale by the youth that support the summer camp program.
The Smorgasbord is one night, with two serving hours each night, at 4:30 and 6:00 p.m. Seating is limited to 120 persons each serving hour.
The 68th Smorgasbord takes place this year on November 12, 2022. Ticket requests will be accepted with postmarks of September 12 through September 26.
