“European Tour of Texas Challenge”

This year cyclists have the unique opportunity to participate in a four-city event which includes Bosque Tour de Norway, GermanFest, Tour D’Italia, and Tour de Paris in the “European Tour of Texas Challenge” presented by Clifton Chamber of Commerce, Lone Stare Cyclists, and Paris Chamber of Commerce. These rallies will be held May to July in Central and North Texas. Participants in all three rides will be eligible to receive a custom European Tour of Texas Challenge jersey upon completion of the challenge events.

Bicyclists from across Texas will be returning to Clifton on May 21st for the 5th annual Bosque Tour de Norway, which offers riders four distance routes: 20, 40, 60, and 80 miles. Along the routes rest stops are positioned at 10-mile intervals, where local volunteers are on hand to serve riders along their beautiful journey. Each course begins at Clifton High School, then winds through the Norse Historic District. For riders who select the longer courses, the scenic trek continues to Cranfills Gap, Meridian, then back to Clifton. Cyclists on the 60-mile journey will split from the pack in Meridian and cross the prairie that attracted 19th-century German farmers to the Womack community. All circuits conclude at Clifton HS. This cultural arts district offers fantastic shopping and dining opportunities for the spring weekend following the ride.

The Challenge continues on June 18th in Italy, Texas, with the 31st Annual Tour d’Italia. Lone Star Cyclists sponsor the event as a fundraiser for Italy High School, the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, and other North Texas charities. The ride has grown to over 1200 riders and includes routes ranging from 12 to 63 miles. This event attracts families and a broad spectrum of cyclists. Camping is available at Italy High School as well as a hot shower after the ride. Friday evening cyclists can carb up at a Spaghetti Dinner and rise early Saturday for all-you-can-eat pancakes. Saturday lunch includes hamburgers and BBQ sandwiches. All proceeds for meals benefit Italy High School.

The final leg of the tour is the Tour de Paris Bicycle Rally on July 16th. This is the event’s 32nd year and includes routes from 20 to 80 miles with five different courses. Line up for the ride starts at Love Civic Center. The Rally begins at 8am on Jefferson Road, west of the Civic Center, and proceeds through historic downtown Paris, Texas. Some steep climbs, long fast flats, and the demand of rolling hills greet riders as they tour the scenic countryside around Paris. After the Rally, riders can refuel with homemade hamburgers and fruit smoothies.
